In the surroundings of Camping Zocco there are many activities to do: bike rides, boat excursions, walks in the middle of nature and much more… Our territory is full of surprises! On the shores of the lake, near our campsite, the remains of a Bronze Age pile-dwelling settlement, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, have been discovered. It is possible to see the finds at the archaeological museum of the Rocca di Manerba.
Moreover, always close to Camping Zocco, you can visit two jewels of Lake Garda: the Rocca di Manerba and the San Biagio Island.
The Rocca di Manerba (also called “Dante’s profile”) is located on a rocky spur overlooking the lake. While walking among the remains of a medieval castle, you can enjoy an amazing panorama and admire Mount Baldo, the San Biagio island, the Gulf of Salò, the port of San Felice and other coastal towns… a unique spectacle. The natural reserve of the Rocca is to be discovered and explored, full of magnificent paths deep in unspoilt nature. Its Parco Lacuale is a protected area, aimed at safeguarding the biodiversity of the lake environment and the coastal territory surrounding the Rocca and Sasso promontory.
The San Biagio Island is also known as the “Rabbit Island”, due to the presence of numerous free rabbits that roam around its territory. You can reach it on foot from Punta Belvedere (when the water is shallow enough to allow it), otherwise with the taxi-boat service from Porto Torchio.
Among the nearest villages you can visit Desenzano, Sirmione and Salò (also reachable by boat from Porto Dusano and Porto Moniga).
In Desenzano you can admire the archaeological area, where the remains of a 4th century AD Roman Villa are safeguarded, the Cathedral and the Medieval Castle.
Sirmione hosts an important thermal centre, but not only. Here you can visit the Grottoes of Catullus, the Scaligero Castle and walk along the Walk of the Muses, until you reach the Lido delle Bionde.
Salò, located in the homonymous gulf, offers a lot to its tourists. In its elegant old town centre you can go shopping, admire the historical buildings and visit the late Gothic Cathedral.
And if you want to take a tour of the most beautiful beaches of Lake Garda, in addition to the Zocco bay, you certainly cannot miss Punta San Sivino and Pisenze in Manerba, the Lido di Fasano in Gardone Riviera, the Spiaggia d’Oro in Desenzano and the Jamaica beach in Sirmione!

Discovering small villages, local markets and unequalled typical local products
❜❜
On Lake Garda, and in its immediate vicinity, you will also find some of the “most beautiful Villages of Italy“… nothing is missing! Walking through the alleys of these suggestive villages you will feel like you have been catapulted into a magical world. Visit Gardone Riviera, Tremosine and Borghetto sul Mincio.
Gardone Riviera hosts the Vittoriale degli Italiani, the last home of Gabriele d’Annunzio. This house-museum also has a beautiful outdoor park from which you can admire, once again, our magnificent lake.
To get to Tremosine you have to take the Strada della Forra (one of the most beautiful roads in the world, now under maintenance), once you arrive you can reach the “thrill terrace“, a terrace overlooking the lake suspended in the void, at 350 meters of elevation… it will take your breath away! To complete the adventure, we recommend you to go to Limone sul Garda and take the wonderful panoramic walk overlooking the lake, on foot or by bike.
Moving away from the shores of the lake you find Borghetto sul Mincio, a medieval village, where time seems to have stopped. The ancient walls, the mills and the houses on the water of the river give life to a truly unique fairy-tale atmosphere. In the restaurants you can taste the famous tortellini di Valeggio, also known as “love knot”, as they recall the knot of a silk handkerchief woven by two lovers, the Nymph Silvia and Captain Malco, before throw themselves into the Mincio.
For lovers of flowers and nature, there is also the opportunity to visit parks and botanical gardens: the Sigurtà Garden Park in Valeggio sul Mincio and the André Heller Botanical Garden in Gardone Riviera.
If you are passionate about history, do a stop-over at San Martino della Battaglia, where the homonymous Tower is located. This town was the scene of the battle of San Martino and Solferino (1859), which marked the end of the Second War for Italian Independence. The tower was erected in honour of Vittorio Emanuele II and those who fought for the Unity of Italy. In total, almost forty thousand soldiers died and were wounded among the Sardinian-Piedmontese, French and Austrian armies, a real carnage. A young Swiss, finding himself accidentally involved in this massacre, formed a team of volunteer nurses to help the wounded and, from such a terrible event, the International Red Cross was born.
During your trips do not forget to explore the characteristic local markets (such as the markets of Manerba and Moniga, respectively every Friday and Monday morning) and to taste the typical local products such as extra virgin olive oil, wine and cheeses!
In fact, vineyards and olive groves frame our splendid lake… and what better setting than this could we deserve? Many wineries in the area will be happy to welcome you for aperitifs and tastings of typical products, an opportunity not to be missed! As local wines you can certainly taste the red Groppello, the Chiaretto from Moniga and the white Lugana.
Are you craving for dessert? No problem: in Polpenazze, a small and charming village 4 km from the Zocco, you can taste the real Italian artisan ice cream (at the “Gelateria Vassalli”), for many the best in the Garda!
